This
site is intended to act as a portal or gateway to begin exploring
the vast array of information on Sinhala language and culture. Also,
we hope to provide information in this site to raise the general
interest of the public in Sinhala language, culture and history,
and to help those interested in learning Sinhala find information,
products, and services.
We'd
like to thank everyone who has helped us in last couple of years
by suggesting links and encouraging us. (Here are excerpts of some encouraging messages we received over the years.)
We
appreciate your comments and suggestions.
History
This
site was first launched in July 14, 1996, and was located at the
University of Sydney, Australia. The site was redesigned and relocated
to the web server of the Australian National University in Canberra
in late 1997. Sinhala Language Page was moved to its new location
www.sinhalapage.com in July 2001.
In November 2002, SinhalaPage web site underwent a major redevelopment.
A new Resources Directory was installed to handle the large
number of resources collected over the years. This is a searchable database of
resources relating to various aspects of Sinhala language and culture.
This new software generates dynamic web pages replacing old html pages making
it easier to maintain and update the web site. Now all the users can add, browse and search resources.
We intend to include a number of exciting new features
to the SinhalaPage in coming months.
